SUNMONU JOINS SENATE COMMITTEE ON WORKS TO INSPECT OYO-OGBOMOSHO ROAD

The Senator representing Oyo Central, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu yesterday joined members of the Senate committee on Works on oversight inspection of the Oyo-Ogbomosho expressway.

The Senate was represented by a strong delegation from the Senate, in the persons of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, HE Sen. Kabiru Gaya, the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Ordia Clifford and Senate Minority Leader, HE Sen. Biodun Olujinmi, while Sen. Fatai Buhari was also in attendance for the inspection.

The delegation met with the contractor, Reynolds Construction Company (RCC), to find out the status of the road and reasons for the delay in completion.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, HE Sen. Kabiru Gaya commended Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu for her unrelenting efforts in making sure that the Oyo -Ogbomosho Express completed in the shortest possible time.

Senator Gaya and his team also inspected bad portions of the Ibadan-Oyo expressway, as well as Oyo-Iseyin expressway.

You may recall the efforts of Sen. Sunmonu to ensure that the road is included in the Federal agenda. Such efforts were not limited to but included with the facts stated below:

1. On 4 August 2015, Sunmonu co-sponsored a motion moved on the floor of the Senate, in which the Oyo-Ogbomosho road was specifically mentioned;

2. On 19 September 2015, Sunmonu visited the site;

3. Letters were also sent to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Power, Works & Housing on the urgent need to resume work on the road;

4. Sunmonu attended the Budget defence of the Minister for Works to settle her mind that the road made the final budget in 2016;

5. On 22 August 2016 an official flag off was organised by Sunmonu where HE, Sen. Kabir Gaya led a strong Senate delegation to the function attended by many dignitaries including His Imperial Majesty Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, The Alaafin;

6. Since the flag off, Sunmonu and other concerned representatives have ensured the road has constantly been budgeted for in 2017 and 2018.

While construction on the road has not been completed for various reasons, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu as a concerned representative of the people has not- and will not- relent on her efforts to ensure that the road is complete.

She, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonnu, as well urged the RCC to keep up their work on the road as no delay will be entertain.
