OYO CENTRAL INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT, SUNMONU'S IMPACT.

SENATOR MONSURAT OLAJUMOKE SUNMONU'S courageous efforts towards improving the infrastructural development of Oyo Central Senatorial District is second to none, considering her giant move towards the completion of Ogbomoso/Oyo Road, a major road that had suffered long time neglect from different government that have served good people of Oyo Central Senatorial District.

The gory pictures of Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway while placing under neglects for over years are still very fresh in our mind, especially those found of routing the roads always.

It will be a sad one referring to the promising lives that have lost on the gory nature of the road due to its sordid condition but just for reference sake, let do.

It is then based on this realization that, Senator representing the good people of Oyo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Monsurat Sumonnu co-sponsored a Motion on Dilapidated Federal Roads in Nigeria in August 2015 along with some other Distinguished Senators, where Sen. Monsurat categorically mentioned the Oyo-Ogbomosho axis of the Ibadan-Ilorin expressway of the Federal Government roads, put in her effort and played a pivotal role in making sure that the road was not only featured and incorporated into the 2016 and 2017 budgetary allocation, but was also pursued beyond being skeleton in the paper, and we have the reality of it by pursuing and lobbying the necessary ministries for the actualization of the project. Added to her legislation and lobbying for the actualization of the road project, on 15th March, 2016, Hon Ogunwuyi (Ogbomosho North/South and Orire Federal Constituency) moved a motion and co-sponsored by Hon. Abiodun (Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa) calling for the Executive to rehabilitate the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road while intensifying efforts to complete the expressway. And all the Federal House of Representatives members from Oyo State contribute immensely to the debate on the motion.

The economic importance of the road can not be over emphasized, especially for Oyo Central Senatorial District constituents in the area of moving goods and services from the North side of the country down to the South West here, and vice versa; moving goods from this South West part of the country to the Northern side, which invariably reduce cost of transport as against what is being charged when considering damages do cause by the collapse and damaged road on the durability and lifespan of respective vehicles. The good roads when completed will definitely reduce the accident rate that mostly occurred and saves lots of life from sudden and untimely death, and as well injurious tendency be reduced.

Work is continuously going on to ensure timely completion of the road, and the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, under the ministerial-ship of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) are continually given adequate supervision and monitoring of the ongoing project, as they have visited the road construction site twice this year only. It is good news that, the road is near completion as it is been given additional budget in this current 2018 FG Budget and is now about 75% complete.
In addition, there was a N100Billion SUKUK Bond which was shared equally beteeen the six geopolitical zones (i.e. 16.6billion per zone), and out of the South West share of the bond, Oyo-Ogbomosho got 5.6billion.

Added to the Oyo-Ogbomosho road project, she has as well helped in rehabilitation of some local bridges and helped in changing the face of the Adegbayi axis of Ibadan-Ife expressway, located in Egbeda local government following the deplorable condition of the road and that have become a death trap for the road users.

Development, is a core and integral part of ideas that forms a responsible and responsive government.
