Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan Organizes Medical Outreach, Gives Free Ophthalmology Operations, Eye-Glasses, Others

In their ways to help advance the course of good and quality health services in the general society, and which is among the humanitarian objects of the Rotary Club generally is community service and people's welfare. 



The Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan, has again added to its series of contributions to the welfare of Oyo state citizens especially for Adabeji, the club adopted community whose their members came in large numbers to benefit from the organized medical outreach, free ophthalmology operations, eyeglasses, and others.


Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of the medical outreach committee, Mrs. Akinlua Iyaniwura disclosed that, the club discovered that many people were too far from medical checkups until the need arise or they were sick. So, the club finds it necessary to bring medical treatment to their doorstep to have free access to their health care.


Iyaniwura further explains that this year medical outreach centers on general medical checking and treatment, dental treatment, optical treatment, and ophthalmology (diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders).



"We try to bring all these treatments to peoples' doorstep for them to have free access to any medical treatment without paying a dime." She added. 


"We have the optical, dental, ophthalmology, and general medical teams from University College Hospital (UCH), they've been attending to peoples' health issue, and we are so happy with the turnouts of our people; the community members and Rotarians, to this free medical outreach," Iyaniwura concluded.


The event was held at Rotary Youth Centre YMCA Iyaganku Ibadan featured general medical checkup, dental care, adolescent healthcare (prevent sickle cell anaemia), maternal healthcare. At the event, eye test, glucose test, blood pressure checkup and malarial test were carried out on the individual beneficiaries. 

Also, treatment like cataract surgery, dental therapy, reading glasses, eye medications, malaria drugs, medical counselling and few others were carried out, and eyeglasses, teeth drugs, malaria drugs and other medical materials were given to people free of charge. 


One of the medical practitioners who speak with our correspondent expressed her satisfaction with the cooperation of people during the medical outreach. Dr. (Mrs.) Olubunmi Oni, "The turnouts of patients (people) is so encouraging and the level of cooperation they demonstrated is satisfying." 


"As you can see, all our team members are here busy attending to people, the patients are well organized and cooperate with an encouraging turnout." Oni expressed. 


Earlier in his speech, one of the traditional rulers present, Chief Yemi Ogunyemi (Baale Oluyole under whose custody is the Adabeji community) appreciates the Rotary Club for their unrelenting contributions to the society. He expresses his happiness about how the club is been managing to cater to the people within the society. Chief Ibiyemi then charges the Club not to relent in doing good things people know them for.


One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olalekan Toyin express her unreserved happiness and joy for the services she got for her children free of charge. According to Mrs. Toyin, her two children got treated without paying any money. She said a long time ago, she was denied the treatments from the hospital due to her financial incapacitation and now gets it at her doorstep freely. 



"One of my children was battled with eye problems and another one was sick. They were denied treatment by the hospital due to my inability to pay their bills. Today, my two children got treated without paying any money, I will never forget Rotary Club and what they do for my family. As you can see, my children are now free, the one with eye issues has been treated, and the one that sick was treated and given some drugs. Toyin explained. 

 

The member of the committee that organized this year's medical outreach expressed their appreciation for the support from the Club. They also threw their undiluted cooperation from time to time to make the club retain its best position in society. 

The committee members are Dr. Soji Ijidale, Dr Olubunmi Oni (both are Dental surgeon and Rotarians), Dr. Niyi Kafidiya, Mrs Iyaniwura Akinlua (Rotary Healthy Committee Chair & Nurse, RTN Paul Emokhare  (Club Public Image Officer), and Rotarian Kemi Akinpelu (Club President & Nurse).

In attendance were Rotarians from other club who also support the healthcare giving services; RTN Abolade RC Ibadan-Ring Road who single handedly screened all attendees for Malaria, RVS and Dr Abdul RC Ibadan Pathfinder had a general consultation and treatment of all attendees.
